چکیده
The development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has led to a need for alternatives to antibiotics for growth promotion and disease prevention in poultry production. The helical polysaccharide β-1,3/1,6-glucan is derived from the cell wall of Saccharomyces cervisiae and has immunomodulating activities. The objective of this study was to determine the ability of 2 supplementation programs with a commercial β-1,3/1,6-glucan product to protect broiler chicks from experimental respiratory challenge with Escherichia coli. Chicks were housed in battery-brooders from 1 d of age and fed a standard starter diet or the same diet containing 20 g/ton (22 ppm) of purified β-1,3/1,6-glucan either continuously (BG25d) or for only the first 7 d prior to challenge (BG7d). At d 7 one-half of the birds were inoculated in the thoracic air sac with 800 cfu of a serotype O2, nonmotile strain of E. coli. All surviving birds were necropsied at d 25. Body

Immune modulation by non-digestible and non-absorbable beta-1,3/1,6-glucan
Chemistry of beta-1,3/1,6-glucans Beta-glucans comprise a very diverse group of polysaccharides (even paper) in which glucose molecules as the only building block are linked together by beta-linkages. Only very few beta-glucan structures, notably beta-1,3/ 1,6-glucans, are bioactive in the sense that they interact with receptors on immune cells and elicit specific biological responses. Beta-1,3...

Characterization of isolated pigeon paramyxovirus-1 (PMV-1) and its pathogenicity in broiler chickens were studied. Two hundred and thirty-two samples collected from 50 unvaccinated pigeons lofts suspected to Newcastle disease from private houses and bird markets from Ahvaz, Iran. Swab samples from cloaca and oropharynx of live pigeons and from trachea, lung, liver, spleen, kidney, brain, prov...
متن کاملLaboratory Diagnostic of Avian Pathogenic Strains (apec)
Escherichia coli is probably the most famous bacteria in broiler production .... Along with Mycoplasma, it is responsible for many economical losses (meat produced of antibiotics spent to fight against). Colibacillosis is indeed the most frequently reported disease in surveys of poultry diseases or condemnations at processing. Yogaratnam in 1995, for instance, showed that 43% of broiler carcass...
متن کاملIn vitro assessment of pathogenicity and virulence encoding gene profiles of avian pathogenic Escherichia coli strains associated with colibacillosis in chickens
Background: Avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) strains have been associated with various disease conditions in avian species due to virulence attributes associated with the organism. Aims: This study was carried out to determine the in vitro pathogenic characteristics and virulence encoding genes found in E. coli strains associated with colibacillosis in chickens. Methods: Fifty-two stock...
متن کاملEffects of Drinking Thyme Essence (Thymus vulgaris L.) on Growth Performance, Immune Response and Intestinal Selected Bacterial Population in Broiler Chickens
This study evaluated the effects of Drinking Thyme Essence (DTE) (Zero, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20 mL/L) on growth performance, immune response and changing of intestinal bacterial population in broiler chickens. A total number of 500 day old male broiler chicks (Ross 308), were randomly assigned to 4 treatments with 5 replicates and 25 chickens per each, based on a completely randomized design (CRD)....
